Born To Lead.
As I sit here in Nairobi tapping the midnight key’s , with all around me silent and ghostly save for the hum of my computers, heat dissipating fan. I can’t help but focus on the events that will unfold some nineteen odd hours from now. Well lest you forget it will be the inauguration of one Barak Obama to be President of the United States of America POTUS No 44. Actually If you ask me I think the use of the term President-Elect is long overdue, acres upon acres have been written about the significance of the moment.
DEEPLY PHOLOSOPHICAL.
These observations have ranged from the deeply philosophical, to the comical and even to the quasi religious with some hardliner right wing neo-cons referring to Obama in their blogs as the “AntiChrist”. It behooves of me then at this turning point in history to write my two cents worth in an effort to enrich the dialogue however I can.
MAKE THAT CHANGE.
Mine is to implore each and everyone of you not to get drowned too much in the merriment ,to drown yourself in the officially sanctioned and other balls that will be conducted earth wide(I guess even the little green men will be abuzz with celebrations). To remember amidst all the merry making what the man of the moment himself had to say in his acceptance speech on that night in a Park in Chicago, I quote verbatim.” This victory alone is not the change we seek - it is only the chance for us to make that change”.
I take that to mean that we should all consider ourselves our lives and aspirations from a new light. We should dare think that we are the cusp of something great and tangible; we should fire our engines and strive to emulate what this one man has achieved. At the risk of sounding clichéd, we should take this opportunity to invigorate ourselves and to believe that yes we can. To paraphrase a popular song by another native of Chicago, “To believe we can fly”.
ANSWER HARD QUESTIONS
We should not let this one instant, moment to be a one off event in our lives, but rather a magical journey of self discovery and self awareness. Self realignment as we strive to achieve all the goals that we have set for ourselves both in the short long and medium term. Allow me to quote the inauguration boy further from his acceptance speech.
We all need to answer the questions of our time, “It's the answer that led those who have been told for so long by so many to be cynical, and fearful, and doubtful of what we can achieve to put their hands on the arc of history and bend it once more toward the hope of a better day”. What more can I say. Have an awe inspiring, 20th day of January, The First Day, Of the First Year, Of The Reign of Barack Obama as Leader of the free world..
